British Blonde Cattle Class Results

There was some Inter-breed success for the British Blonde breed at the Great Yorkshire Show as the breed’s Supreme Champion from judging on Wednesday, 12 July, went on to stand Reserve Junior Inter-breed the following day.
That was Thor Atkinson’s Newlands Tanza, an 18-month-old heifer that had already won the Supreme breed tickets at both Royal Cornwall and Devon shows and stood Reserve to a herdmate at the Royal Highland. Her dam needs little introduction as Brownhill Netta claimed multiple Championships last year with Tanza at foot, as well as the Supreme Beef Inter-breed at the Royal Welsh and the Reserve Inter-breed honours three times. Sired by Ark Maverick, Tanza was brought out by Thor’s son, Frank, and stockpeople, Stephen and Helen O’Kane.
“She’s really well balanced and very correct with terrific locomotion – she’s a really modern heifer,” commented the judge, Alan Walker, of the Auchinlech Herd.
Following Tanza through from the Female section was the Reserve Supreme, Lucy Corner’s three-year-old heifer, Lucyland Ripple, which was shown with her calf at foot. She is from the successful Lucyland Jellybean line, being out of Lucyland Mixup, and sired by Lucyland Nacho. Previously, Ripple was Champion at Otley and Reserve to a herdmate at Cumberland Show.
“She has a great top, a full second thigh and is doing a great job of her calf at foot,” added Mr Walker.
Another from Thor in the shape of the joint record holder, the 12,000gns Hallfield Plato, stood Male Champion to follow on from his Supreme at the Royal Highland and Reserve to Tanza at both Cornwall and Devon. This Broccagh Kingfisher son was born in November, 2019, out of Hallfield Mia.
Reserve Male was Everingham Tyson, a 14-month-old Hallfield Rupert son from NT and JH Barrett. Bred from Everingham Judy, he was Junior Male Champion at Lincoln Show.
Lucy’s Lucyland Skittle was another class winner with Lucy also leading the Pairs and Group of Three classes, while the final red ticket went to Hilltop Oceanina from Miss MS Donaldson.
