SOCIETY OFFICIALS

Breed Secretary

It is a privilege to be the secretary of British Blondes Society.  Having been with the society for ten year, I have seen many changes with the breed and the industry.

Positivity in the breed has grown particularly over the last 12 months and with all members pulling in the same direction and working together it can only make our breed stronger, giving us a breed to be proud of.

Willie McElroy, Northern Ireland.

Society Chairman

Promotion & Publicity Committee

It is a great privilege and an honour to be elected as chairman of your society and I look forward to the challenges ahead. I believe what makes a good chairman is his council and I feel that’s what we have. Together we will work hard to build a positive future for our breed. If you have and queries or suggestion please feel free to contact myself of any of the Council

Alistair Martin, Northern Ireland.

Vice Chairman

Breed Development Committee

I was first elected to council on 6th March 2008, during this time I have worked on different roles within council. As vice chairman I now recognise that the society needs to evolve and be proactive to suit today’s market. I want to be part of that change and bring the society and breed to be more widely recognised in the UK where it should be.

David Knight, Bristol.

Shows & Sales Chairman

From a non-farming background, the Doncombe herd was started in 1985 with the purchase of one heifer,  since then we have had to learn on the run.  This makes us very keen to encourage new breeders  and always try help where needed.

A council member for many years and had a part in starting the National show and the sale at Worcester.  I remain determined to see our breed take the credit it deserves.

Christopher Kit Hopley, Cheshire.

Promotion & Publicity Chairman

Shows & Sales Committee

As a Council member I feel very approachable to all people and happy to advise where I can and take forward suggestions to your Council

I feel that we have a very strong Chairman and Council which I am happy to support 100%

James Weightman, Peterlee.

Breed Development Chairman

Disciplinary Board

Having a herd of 50 cows I am keen to encourage stronger bull sales. To do this we need more quality bulls forward, hi health status herds and more performance figures. If the customer wants ebv’s and calving values then we have to provide them or risk losing buyers to other breeds.

Stuart Wilson, Tamworth, Staffs.

Finance Chairman

Being on council to work as a part of a team, to promote and take forward the breed and society.  And to support  the office and staff.

Young Breeders

Having gained my degree in Agriculture from Harper Adams University and working on farms across the world I now run the Whitepeak herd near Buxton, Derbyshire alongside my father. We are a relatively new herd established 10yrs ago which we run alongside a commercial suckler herd all put to Blonde bulls. As a council member I am keen to promote the Blonde breed and increase awareness of the breeds attributes amongst commercial farmers, along with developing a youth programme for young Blonde breeders.

Breed Development Committee

I was introduced to Blondes through my husband and father in law who have been breeding their Bridge herd since they purchased their first two heifers over 20 years ago. Having married into farming and cattle production I'm probably newer to it than most council members but I am very passionate about our industry and about Blondes. I'm hoping that my role when away from the farm as a scientist can be of use on the council as we look at existing, new and emerging technology that may be useful driving the breed forward in the future.

The family have been breeding blondes for over 30 years, and having witnessed and assisted with the development of the Fronfedw herd over the years I am now keen to put my knowledge to good use on the Council. With my experience in PR, broadcasting and communications I am keen to ensure that the excellent attributes and benefits of the Blonde breed are promoted widely in order to encourage a new raft of Blonde breeders as well as to increase the use of Blonde sires on commercial farms. I strongly believe that we need to ensure that the breed continues to satisfy both our commercial and pedigree breeders alike

In 2000 I bought my first British Blonde Cow and started up the Everingham Blondes herd of British Blonde cattle, since then growing the herd to produce quality pedigree and cross bred animals showing only the best of the herd at local day and County shows. Having gained an Agri- Business degree at Askham Bryan College, I think I have the relevant knowledge and experience to assist the Society and the council in establishing the British Blonde Breed in its true place at the forefront of the current market place, and promote the breed wherever possible

Lucy Corner

In 2012 I bought my first British Blonde Heifer and started the Lucyland Herd. I have since completed my degree in Agriculture and Land Management. I now work for Genus ABS as an AI technician. I am keen to produce and promote quality British Blondes to the widest audience possible.
