National Show – June 2022 – Royal Three Counties Show.

Judge – Mr W McElroy, Ivaniskey Herd, Northern Ireland

A cow with calf at foot continued her winning form to secure the Supreme Championship at the British Blonde Society’s National Show held at Royal Three Counties on Friday, 17 June.

Thor Atkinson’s five-year-old Brownhill Netta has had a good season so far, claiming the Reserve Inter-breed titles at both Northumberland Show and the East of England Show in the previous fortnight and lifted the same Reserve Inter-breed award at the Three Counties. Bred by Tom and John Hope and bought at Carlisle in 2018, her pedigree features Hallfield Homer on to Brownhill JO. She was shown with her calf at foot – the Ark Maverick-sired Newland Tanza, which also won the breed calf class and the Interbreed Calf class and was shown by Thor’s son, Frank.

The second prize cow from the same class, David and Sue Knight’s multiple Champion winner and former Three Counties Champion, Doncombe Madhu, followed Netta all the way through to secure the Reserve Female and Reserve Supreme tickets. This five-year-old by Aramis and out of Doncombe Ishfar, also secured the Knights the Home-bred Championship.

Lifting the Male Championship was Stephen Potter’s Whistley Orthoclase, a December 2018-born bull featuring plenty of home genetics being a son of Whistley Magnificent bred out of Whistley Emerald.

Orthoclase and Netta later paired up to stand Reserve in the Inter-breed Beef Pairs, with this duo then teaming up with Madhu to lift the same accolade in the Inter-breed Continental Group of Three.

The Knights were back in the prizes when their Doncombe Shindig took the Reserve Male title. Another with plenty home genetics in his pedigree, this 14-month-old Doncombe Legatissimo son is out of Doncombe Jamboree.

Stuart Mycock’s 15-month-old Silverwood Len-sired Whitepeak Shelby secured the Junior Championship, making it a hat-trick of Junior Champions bred by her dam, Allerston Debbie whose other daughters were Allerston Gambi winning junior champion in 2012 and Allerston Houlou who won junior champion in 2013.

Other class winners included TH & JH Hickin’s Hillhead Ranger (Allacott Herbert x Hillhead Jodie); TH & JH Hickin’s Penwen Rouena (Hashtag x Penwen M&mmm’s); Mr & Mrs D Knight’s Doncombe Ruparma (Doncombe Mulungu x Doncombe Madhu); Mr & Mrs D Knight’s Doncombe Shilpa (Doncombe Otis x Doncombe Madhu).
