SCOTTISH BLONDE CLUB – CHAIRMANS REPORT – DEC 2008

Our club attended the Carlisle October sales where we ran a bingo night. Half of the proceeds from this were donated to a charity nominated by the society office. We hope to repeat this in May 2009 but this time we will be better prepared with the correct number of balls in the wheel !

I would like to thank everyone for their help on the evening especially Joanne Crozier.

The show season started with Ayr show where a strong entry of cattle were judged by George Hamilton. The overall champion was Garngour Beyonce from the Clark family. Reserve was Hillhead Vinita from Alan Walker.

The society attended Beef Expo in May at Perth auction market. Our stand was extremely busy at the start and we were at a loss as to understand why. We then discovered that Caroline Jackson the new breed secretary had put up a notice saying that the cattle displayed were from George Harrison ( former Beetle) instead of our very own George Hamilton. I would like to thank everyone involved , in particular George Hamilton for exhibiting his cattle.

In June the Highland Show provided once again a tremendous entry of cattle. Overall champion was Shapfell Bongo ( Mike Harrison and Andrew Stott). John Owen sponsored the highest placed female which was won by Eric Mutch. Once again I would like to thank all members for their help on the stand during the show.

The next event was our club herds competition judged by Donald Lyle from the Caledonian Market in Stirling . The Hope family were the large herd winners and the Clarks the small herds.

This year unfortunately showed a small entry for the Royal Show due to blue tongue restrictions. The only Scottish club representative was a young member from our club , Sean Kennedy who won the under 21 Blonde stock judging competition which combined Simmental and Belgian Blue cattle.

We attended the Scottish Winter Fair towards the end of the year instead of Agri-Scot. The quality of cattle on show was tremendous and a number of blonde bull users approached the stand which was very encouraging.
