Felltop Archie
Local breeder John Stott of Hilltop, Hesket new Market, sold the top price of the day at the Blonde Society annual autumn show and sale at Carlisle on Friday. Felltop Archy (pictured left), a July 2005 born son of Bradbury Evan and out of an Everest bred mother, caught the eye of Northern Ireland breeders Hillhead Blondes to join their herd based at Ballynahinch, Co.Down, for 6,000gns. Archy, the youngest bull in the sale, had earlier in the day won his class and also lifted the reserve overall male and supreme championship awards, along with the trophy for the best turned out animal and the society trophy for the best entry from a breeder with ten or less breeding females. These add to his achievements of one championship and two reserve championships he has won throughout the summer shows this season.

Following at 5,000gns was the first of four entries shown by Welsh breeder Danny Davies of Lampeter, Dyfed. Fronfedw Arawn (pictured below) was the events senior male, overall male and supreme champion and is full brother to the supreme champion from this years Royal Welsh Show. Arawn is sired by Fronfedw Rhyd-y-Beirdd, the newly crowned Blonde Society Best Stock bull for 2006 in their recent
national herd competition. He also travels across the water to Northern Ireland for Sean McCloskey of Co.Londonderry.

A junior bull from Lancashire breeders PJ & ES Rogerson of Chipping, Preston sold their July 2005 born bull, Castleview Albert
for 4,500gns. Albert, a son of Ryneside Randy and out of a Whistley Dollar sired mother, was secured by DG & EM Jones & Son
of Whole House Farm, Brecon. South West breeder David Knight of Bristol sold to a top of 3,500gns with his consignment of four entries forward. Doncombe
Aga Khan, a son of the noted stock bull Druk Lance and out of Doncombe Nicolet a Druk Leo bred mother, was sold to join the
Ivaniskey herd based near Co.Down, Norther Ireland for Mrs MR McElroy.

Reaching the 3,000gn mark was a June 2005 born bull shown by regular exhibitor Peter de Giles of Ashford , Kent . Bilsington
Argent, a son of Bilsington Snowdon and from a homebred cow by Ravensworth Mitchel, he went to the firm of Thomas Epps
of Ardnave Farm, Isle of Islay.

In the female classes, the female champion secured the leading price of 3,000gns shown by West Cumbrian breeders JF & C Saunders from Ulverston. Maidenlands Verity,(pictured right)a very attractive daughter of Fronfedw Scott and going back to Gala
Highlander on her mothers side, she joins the Hillhead Blonde herd in Co.Down.

At 2,000gns was the reserve female champion Hilltop Abi (pictured below) shown by Andrew and Carol Stott from Corby Hill, Carlisle .
She already has a championship award to her credit from her only show outing this summer. A daughter to the noted Kinaston Nyle bull, Abi now joins the Allerston herd of RT Ward from New South Farm, Pickering.

DUNGANNON - 16th October 2006

The NI Blonde Cattle clubs Autumn pedigree show and sale kindly sponsored by Janssen Animal health saw a packed house on
Monday 16th October. To celebrate the clubs 25 th Anniversary the club combined a blonde crossbred section kindly sponsored by
Corby Rock Mill Ltd. The Pedigree Bulls got of to a slow start but there was a great demand for Blonde females and blonde crossbred sucklers. Mr. Alex Downard and his son Steven Downard from Armagh did a great job at judging the above sections.

Supreme Blonde Champion went to Ashtonlodge Aristocrat (pictured right) owned by Mr. John McVeigh, Newtownards. This bull’s sire Ashtonlodge Jet took Interbreed champion at the RUAS and the Royal show. The dam, Ganaway Spice is full ET sister to Edelweiss who also took the Interbreed championship at the RUAS and the NISA Best beef cow championship.

Reserve Blonde champion went to Coole Arnie owned by Mr. H D Dorman, Coalisland. This bull took Reserve champion at the final of the calf championship 2006. Both these animals failed to meet their reserve and were unsold.

Ashtonlodge Aristocrat

Joint top price of 1500gs went to Budore Anto owned by Jonathan Lee, Magherafelt and Applecroft Amazon owned by Mr. & Mrs. J A Houston, Bangor. Budore Anto a Budore Tintin son was purchased by Mr. Ian Smyth, Limavady while Applecroft Amazon a Totteridge Omen son was purchased by Mr. T McCartney, Newry. 2 nd Joint best price of 1250gs went to Mr. M R Rodgers & son, Ballynahinch, for Hillhead Andrew and Hillhead Adrian. Both Palace sons.


Female Champion - Cromkill Amber
Mr. R N McBride, Ballymena sold the female Champion and reserve female champion for 1750gs each. Cromkill Amber a Ganaway Jasper daughter was purchased by Mr. Francis Carson Cookstown and Cromkill Anna a Druk Lance daughter which was purchased by Mr. Gerry Forbes, Dungannon. Norman McBride’s herd was judged the best large pedigree Blonde herd in NI and the reserve overall large herd in the UK this year. Mr. Francis Carson also purchased Moyola Valentina a Whistley Dollar daughter owned by Mr. & Mrs. I McFadden for 1500gs.

A great selection of Blonde crossbred sucklers sold to a top of £280 above their weight.

1st place went to Paul McGarry, Dundrod. 2 nd Norman McKnight, Newry and 3rd Patrick McGuigan, Omagh.Males: 1st place went to Mr. H Griffin, Toomebridge. 2 nd Ronald McGuigan, Killyman and 3 rd Norman McKnight, Newry. The 1st placed female owned by Paul McGarry, Dundrod weighed 400kg and sold for £680, £280 above weight.3rd placed female
owned by Patrick McGuigan, Omagh weighted 390kgs and sold for £595, £205 above weight. 3rd placed male owned by Ronald McGuigan, Killyman, weighted in at 310kgs and sold for £510, £200 above weight.Thanks to Janssen Animal Health and Corby Rock Mill Ltd for their sponsorship, to Mr. Alex and Steven Downard also to

BLONDES TOP AT 6,000GNS

The British Blonde Society Carlisle May sale (Saturday 13th May 2006) saw the judge for the day Mr W E Thompson of Nether Glasslaw, Fraserburgh, give the Supreme Championship to Whitefield Veejay put forward for show and sale by the Society Chairman Mr Eric Mutch, owner of the Whitefield herd at Forglen, Banff.

Veejay (pictured right) a Bilsington Nelson son and out of a Whitefield Olivia dam, strode out in the judging ring and took the Supreme Championship honour and then went on to make the sales top price of 6,000gns and was knocked down to Gamble and Rigg, Sharplaw, Kelso.

Next top price of 3,600gns put forward by E Telfer and son was Stocksfield Viagraman standing second in his class
and selling to A Gourlay and Co of Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. The Overall Reserve Champion was K Jacksons Stubbswalden Voltaire, a Whitefield Leader son and selling to G Johnstone and son of Great Orton, Carlisle .

The Junior Championship was won by P Weightman and sons of Peterlea, Co Durham . Their October 04 bull, Hallfield Vice, sired by Megray Serendipity and out of Hallfield Primrose a Ballygowan Noble daughter, sold to D Holiday of Clapham, Lancaster.Reserve Junior position went to Doncombe Abracadabra, sired by Rodleigh Singer and out of Rodleigh Orchid, put forward for sale by David Knight and purchased by B Frances of Welshpool.

The top price female was J&M Gibbs Broomley Valery, a Hackleton Phoenix daughter, selling to Mike Harrison of
West Sleddale , Shap, for 2,600gns.


Ystwyth Ulrika & Calf
The Champion Female (pictured left) was brought forward by JPG Lewis & Co of Aberystwyth. Ystwyth Ulrika, a June 03 heifer sired by Levant and shown with its March 06 heifer calf at foot by Whitefield Leader, was purchased by RT Ward of Pickering , North Yorkshire , for 2,200gns. From the same stable came Ystwyth Ursula, an August 03 heifer again sired by Levant , selling with her April 06 bull calf at foot to Miss Victoria Howells of Hereford . Miss Howells was the winner of the British Blonde Society Stock Judging Photo Competition featured in the Farmers Guardian and winning the £750 first prize of which she put to purchase Ystwyth Ursula to start her new Mymyddbrith herd, in Hereford.

BRISTOL BLONDES - 22nd April 2006

A top price of 4,400 gns was achieved at the British Blonde Society Spring Show and  Sale at The Bristol Sale Centre on Saturday 22 April 2006 . Topping the sale was Fronfedw Vervain (pictured right) at 4,400 gns, a Fronfedw Rhyd-y-Beirdd
son and out of Fronfedw Rhosmari, put forward for sale by Mr R G Davies of Ciliau Aeron, Lampeter, was purchased by Mr J Lewis
and Son of Carter's Farm, Presteigne.

The second highest price was paid by Mr R J Lloyd-Campion of Haslemere, Surrey, for the youngest bull in the sale and first prize winner Whistley Atmostphere making 2,600 gns and put forward by the Whistley Herd Partnership.

Supreme Champion : Doncome Vagabond

The Supreme Championship was taken by David Knight and Sue Cavilla of the Doncombe Herd with Doncombe Vagabond (pictured left), an April 2004 son of Doncombe Rangatira and realising 2,200 gns. Also taking the
Reserve Championship spot was Doncombe Vindicator and selling at 1,900 gns to Mr D C Rees of Brecon, Powys.

The Female Champion and top price female was Millend Vanilla put forward by Mr G Bowden and Son of Broome, Stourbridge, a daughter of Ganaway Montague and out of Millend Fudge. Vanilla made 2,200 gns and sold to Lyndsey Hawker of Lodge Farm, Harby.

The Reduction Sale of The Eanswyth Herd on behalf of Mr and Mrs R W Ward was well supported with Eanswyth
Udine, a July 03 Heifer with her October 05 Bull calf at foot, making 1,400 gns, with other pairs to 1,260 gns and
1,180 gns. In-calf heifers averaged 720 gns and bulling heifers averaged 600 gns.

BLONDES IN DEMAND AT DUNGANNON - 8th April 2006

 There was a good steady trade last weekend at the N.I Blonde Cattle Club’s ‘Spring Show & Sale’, with a total clearance of all stock on offer. The event was held at Dungannon Mart and was once again kindly sponsored by The Northern Bank.

Supreme Champion Cromkill Val

Robert Gibson from the Ballygowan herd was judge for the day. He awarded Supreme Champion to Cromkill Val, a 19month old Superior carcass bull bred by Norman McBride from Ballymena. This bull was sired by Whistley Dollar and went on to secure top price of £3,045.

Second top price of £2,205 went to Ivaniskey Antonio, a 1year old bull bred by Ivan McElroy and family Dromara. He was sired by Druk Lance and was purchased by C M & G S J Warnock from Claudy.

Reserve Champion went to Hillhead Vinny, another Superior carcass bull. Bred by M R Rodgers & son of Ballynahinch, and sired by Palace, this bull found a new home at Islandmagee. He was purchased for £1,890 by Boyd Quiery.

An average of £1,590 was paid for bulls.

Female Champion Moyola Unicorn

Female Champion of the day went to an in-calf heifer, Moyola Unicorn, bred by Ian and Jackie McFadden of Castledawson. This heifer, sired by Hadley Hank, sold for £1,470 and was purchased by William Harron Glenavy.

Drumraymond Alice, an 11month old heifer, sired by Druk Lance and bred by Henry Griffin from Toomebridge, took Reserve Female Champion. This heifer found a new home in Ballygawley. She was purchased by T Moore for £890.

Mike Harrison's Shapfell herd of Sleddale Hall, Shap, Penrith, topped the British Blonde Society's spring show and sale at Carlisle securing the top price of 3,800 gns for his home bred Reserve Champion Junior bull Shapfell Vimto (pictured right).

Vimto born in October 2004 and sired by Megray Senator and out of a Stocksfield bred mother was purchased by J.W Frame of the Gala herd at Biggar.

Next top price of 3700 gns was Quicks Vinncent sired by Loosebeare Robert and out of a Connington Indigo daughter, Vincent was purchased by Mark Wheeler of Stonehouse Gloucester.


Shapfell Vimto

The Senior and Overall Champion of the show Hallfield Vinny from Peter Weightman and son from Peterlea, Co Durham , sold for 3200 gns to W.H Davidson and T.W Dinning both of Hexham. Hallfield Vinny a son of Ballygowan Noble and out of a Hallfield Pippa daughter of the imported sire Van.

Hillhead Valmet

Again selling at 3200 gns was the Junior and Reserve Overall Champion from Hillhead Blondes from Ballynahinch, Co Down.

Hillhead Valmet a July 2004 son of the imported bull Palace and was purchased by J Craig, Londonderry , N. Ireland . Also from the same stable came Hillhead Vanach again a Palace son and selling for 2800 gns.

Also reaching 3000 gns Gerard Stranney of Down Patrick N. Ireland, with Seaview Volcano and June 2004 son of Ashtonlodge, Tyson and out of a Hillhead Silkworm dam and selling to W.H Wright and son Chesterfield , Derbyshire.

Topping the sale in the elite females was The Reserve Champion Doncombe Vienatta a junior heifer sired by the noted Druk Lance and put forward by David Knight, Coombe Cottage, Bristol, and realising 2,600gns.

Selling at 1600 gns was the second prize heifer Whitefield Vicky from Eric Mutch, Banff , Aberdeen .

The Champion female of the day put forward by J and M.D Gibb was Broomley Valentine and March 2003 heifer sired by Hackelton Phoenix and selling for 1400 gns.

Gala Ugene (pictured below) first bought by L Laird and sons from Mr J Frame,  to be used on their Lochhead herd heifers, was made Reserve Champion and realised the top sale price of 2,600gns.

He is a Riverdale Imperial son born in December 2003 and sold to Messrs Templeton from Blairsgreen. The champion of the day Hallfield Valhalla, a son of the well known Ballygowan Noble, exhibited by P Weightman and sons, sold to the judge for the day Mr R Telford, Northumberland for 2,000gns. Making 1,500gns Mr D Grants Ardmore Usebio a December born son of Ardmore Standfast.
