BLONDE MARKET TOPPERS


North Wales Potential Show and Sale

North Wales Potential show and sale took place on Thursday 21 st February which was sponsored by the British Blonde Society.

Congratulations to Jim Hollingsworth from Pandy Farm, Denbighshire who sold the top priced Blonde Cross Bull sired by Pioneer Atherton for £1450.

Exeter Market

January
Mrs Jean Clarke topped the sales on the day with her store cattle, 7 steers sold at an average of £728 and 16 heifers sold at an average of £682. Mrs Clarke reported that her cattle were born in December 2005 and were fed only on grass and silage. The current grain market might well encourage greater interest in the British Blonde for its ability to convert forage crops so impressively.

11th January
G J Cleaves heifers were a fine match for the top priced heifers of the day in Exeter reaching £600 per head.

18th January
G J Cleave topped the market this week with his Blonde steers reaching £782 per head . NGW & MA Curtis & sons also had a good price of £588 per head for blonde heifers.

1st February
Top priced steers came from J Cornish of Tiverton reaching £622, heifers reached £525 from R.Colbear from Northlew.

8th February
Top priced store heifers sold at £650 per head from K P Rowell.

15th February
MJ Freegard of Kingsbridge took top price within the Blonde store cattle of £590 per head for steers and MTD Pile of Dunkeswell took £460 per head for heifers.

22nd February
Top priced store cattle sold for £678 from G Tancock, Broadclyst. Store heifers top price was £505 sold by C Harvey of Moretonhampstead.

29th February
Top priced store heifers sold at £625 from W J Berry & Son.

Worcester

Saturday 15th December
Blonde store steers take the top average at 117p per kg which was 7p above other breeds. The heifers were 8ppkg up on the other breeds at an average of 110p.

5th January
Store trade saw Blonde cross steers average 133ppkg and heifers 136ppkg.

Hexham and Northern Marts

18 th December
Blonde x heifers top the market at 130.5ppkg from Low Leam, totalling £779.09.
Blonde cross heifers under 10 months sold at £365 from The Deans.

8th January
A welcome start to the New Year when on 8 th January the top two steers at market were Blondes from Low Leam reaching £920.92 and £903.98.

15th January
Blonde steers from Low Leam were well out in front again this week at 142.5 per kg, a whole 10p above our nearest rival breed. Finally selling at £969 on average.
Heifers again made good prices at an average of £867.65 from Jubilee Buildings

25th January 2008
Blonde cross steers aged 17 – 22 months reached £795 Blonde cross steers aged 11 – 16 months sold at £700 and 11- 16 month heifers sold at £650 all from Low Wiserley.

29th January
Blonde steers from low Leam were well out on top this week at 148.5p and 138.5p which was a 9p lead on any other breed. Selling at £1016.59 this top British Blonde beast was a clear market topper at over £66 difference on its nearest competitor.

1st February
Two superb Blonde cross heifers made £905 and £900 from Houselope Grange, Tow Law.
Blonde cross heifers 17 – 22 months made £518 per head., and Blonde cross steers from the same stable made £585.

5th February
Blonde heifers made 137.5pp/kg from Hallington New Houses.Blonde steers from Low Leam made 144.5pp/kg, averaging £1099.21 per head.

8th February
23 month and over Blonde cross steers from Merryshields sold for £755. 17- 22 month old store cattle from the holding sold £800 per head.
11-16 month old pure bred Blonde heifers sold at £542 from High Strothers, whilst Blonde cross heifers of the same age from the same holding again sol for £482 per head.

19th February
Blonde cross heifers 23 months and over sold at £648 from Wolsingham Park.
17- 22 month old blonde cross steers sold for £805 from Merryshields

22nd February
Blonde cross steers over 23 months from Wolsingham Park Farms made £795 per head.
Blonde cross store cattle 11 – 16 months from West Shields sold at £578. Blonde cross store cattle under 10 months sold for £560 from Spenside.

4th March
Finished Blonde heifers sold at £974.94 from East Matfen.

7th March
23 month old Blonde cross steers from Duddo Hill sold at £795 with heifers from Chesterwood selling at £740.
17 - 22 month old store cattle from Duddo hill sold at £805, 11-16 month old stores sold at £558 from Barker House, 10 month and younger stores sold from High Brothers for £410.

17th December 2007
2 Blonde Bull calves topped Frome market at an average of £80.50 sold by BL & IB Stevens of Witham Friary.

AH & C Heal outshone his competitors in the sale ring at 122.50p/kg selling at £765 on

2nd January
J T Heritage’ blonde steers took the bidding to 126.50ppkg averaging a total of £825 per beast. A fine start to 2008.

16th January
R Oatley topped the market at Frome with his Blonde steers reaching £936 per head averages price per kg was 116.50

13th February
AW Tippetts & son took the top bid of £1075 on his blondes average 153.80pp/kg for steers. £726 was reached for DF & LM Selman for their blonde heifers. Top head price was £726
Bull calves made £265 per head from padfield and Dyke from Warminster

20th February
RG & A Langley took top average head price of £866 at 121.50ppkg for Finished Blonde steers. RMJ Coles took top price of £755 for blonde heifers at an average of 126.10ppkg.
G Collins from Devizes sold ten month old store cattle that were well sought after for £578 for steers and £455 for heifers.
Blonde bull calves sold at top price of £150 from Cross Key Farms Ltd and heifer calves sold at £82 from BL & IB Stevens of Witham Friary.

27th February
Blonde finished steers sold at an average of 126.30ppkg top price 145.0ppkg, top head selling at £909 from J T Heritage.
Heifers sold at an average of 134.5ppkg, top head sold at £704 from H J Irvine& Son.

Young Blondes sold from GB Sewell & Partners at 100 - 109 p p/kg. G B Sewell & partners also sold a pure blonde steer of 14 months old for £750.
